It is the unique process of cooking fresh meat and fish ingredients in the presence of a natural enzyme, which digests (hydrolyses) the protein into a mixture of peptides and free amino acids. By making the peptides smaller, mimicking the natural breakdown that occurs in the dog’s stomach during digestion, the digestibility and bioavailability of the proteins are increased - and it improves the taste as well!
Eating the fish collagen peptides in Peptide Plus Skin & Coat has been shown to increase hydroxyproline, hyaluronic acid and moisture content of skin. This recipe also ensures an ideal supply of all the amino acids a dog needs to maintain and repair their skin & coat (by making keratin, collagen and elastin etc). In addition, studies have shown that dietary supplementation with fish collagen peptides plays a significant role in repairing tissue, reducing itchiness and healing wounds.
The Peptide+ Skin and Coat recipe also contains a blend of oils, including borage oil, salmon oil and soya oil, to ensure the supply of LA, GLA, ALA, EPA and DHA at levels that have been shown to have beneficial effects on itchiness and skin and coat health in dogs.
Plus, because the proteins are now in a smaller peptide form the body can't recognise them for what they are, which means there's less chance of an allergic reaction.
