Below are approximate feeding guides based on the ideal weight of your dog.
You should feed according to their ideal weight NOT their current weight.
Please note that these figures are based on NRC recommendations for active dogs, but dogs can vary considerably over how much food they need due to factors such as age, activity level, breed and temperament.
We suggest working off the lower end of the scale, and then adjust accordingly if your dog still appears hungry or begins to lose weight.
If you are feeding a lower calorie option with a view to your dog losing weight then you would need to reduce the recommended amount by about 10%.
Similarly, if you are trying to get your dog to gain weight then a 10% increase is recommended. While it is tempting to feed more, overfeeding is a very common cause of loose stools.
